What does the center green light mean?

In certain models, the center LED will turn green to indicate the exact center of the stud.

Stud finder, stud finder with bubble level, stud finder wall scanner, wood beam finder

What does the single blinking light mean?

Several of our models now have a low battery indicator. When the battery voltage is low, the second LED from the right will flash. Replace with two brand new batteries.

What batteries can I use?

Not all of our models are compatible with rechargeable batteries. For best results, use two brand new, non-rechargeable, AA or AAA batteries (check instructions for details).

What materials do your stud finders detect through?

Sheetrock/Drywall

Our stud finders work best through a single layer of sheetrock/drywall.

Lath and Plaster

While many customers have reported success using our stud finders through lath and plaster, detection is not guaranteed due to irregularities in plaster thickness.

Incompatible Surfaces

We do not recommend using our stud finders through stucco, exterior siding, double layers of sheetrock/drywall (common in condos, townhomes and home theaters), tile, wood flooring, carpet or roofing.

Franklin sensors in my opinion are by far the best in the industry when it comes to design, functionality, and ease of use. I have had no issues with the two that I’ve had.

I tried 4 different stud-finders and found this is one to be the best of them all. I am a novice handyman and probably could have figured out one or the other but just didn't have time or patience. I would say this one is the most user-friendly and ergonomic of them all. I read reviews of this brands "better" models that might work better, but for me, needing to find a stud, this works just find.

I am a finish carpenter and use a stud sensor quite a bit…. This one looked appealing because of the size,,,however it dose not work as good as the longer one……when it senses the stud as you slide it the three lights come on but if you go to far , extra lights come on and it is confusing asto what three is the stud … when you move it back the other way it dose the same thing….. a very short range un like the longer one’s….. anyone who uses this type of stud finder would understand what I mean….. it dose get the job done ,but you have to move it back an forth way more than you should…….

Arrived missing the battery cover and pencil cover, and who knows what else. It doesn't turn on so I assume some other important piece is missing. Switched batteries twice for the same result - not usable. I'm contacting Franklin Sensors support to get this fixed, and if they're not able I'm returning this as soon as I'm able.

Well worth the price. A cheaper stud finder couldn't locate anything because the building has old lath and plaster under the drywall. This stud finder had no problem whatsoever. Very pleased.

This tool is really good. I was able to find a stud within one minute. I was very pleased when my hammer hit the nail and I had nailed center stud.I am very impressed! Two AAA batteries go in the center handle.

Bought this about a year ago and used it a few times and it worked ok. Moved to a house with the splattered sheetrock walls and it seems to struggle, it also struggles on smooth ceiling where there is insulation. As you move it across the wall, or ceiling it will show all 7 lights in strange places and then blink out, as you approach a stud it will start with 3 lights and then all the lights will come on. You have to move it back and forward to determine where the stud is, still getting the 3 lights mixed with all lights at the stud location, I still have to guess where the stud exactly is. I end up getting a refrigerator magnet and finding the sheetrock screws, maybe not the dead center of the stud but close. I don't trust it, maybe I got a defective one, too late to return.

The most accurate stud finder I've used. That includes the smart phone kind that "sees" through walls. Put the batteries in, place it on the wall, and press the button. That's all there is to it. The multiple lights are perfect for really knowing where the edges of the stud are and how wide it might be. This unit is wide enough and has enough indicators to straddle doubled up 2x4's. From my non-scientific tests it's within a 1/4" of the true edge every time.

No need for calibration, it's super easy to use. Almost like using a computer mouse. The only thing is that it won't detect electrical wiring. But otherwise, for hanging pictures or a coat hook, it's great! They even throw in a pencil to go in the pencil slot on the stud finder. This is much nicer and easier to use.

Needed to accurately find the center of the wall studs in order to securely wall mount a large TV. This device worked flawleesly the three lit leds showed me exactly where to drill. It made a potentially difficult job a breeze

I ordered this stud sensor and Amazon gave a guaranteed delivery date of July 18th. After messaging on the 18th that the package was going to be delivered by 10pm. Amazon messaged and said there was a delay in delivery and the package would be delivered by July 20. It actually came on July 19th. I guess Amazon's guaranteed delivery date doesn't mean much. The stud sensor works well. I am happy with it.
