I was completely surprised at the great quality and careful craftmanship of this tool. The item's description is right on target - this tool is definitely a "work of art". I have never seen a helping hands set with the excellent quality this one has. The 13"x9" base plate is about 1/16" thick, but even though it is not thick in size, it is heavy duty (about 2lbs 8ozs) and very solid, it does not flex or wobble around at all. The rubber pads prevent it from sliding around on the workbench. The magnifying-glass arm and the "hands" arms are very flexible but good and tight so they stay in whatever position you bend them to. Their bases are all magnetic and attach anywhere on the metal baseplate you want them. The magnets in the arms themselves are very strong. They can be easily repositioned by rocking the magnetic base at an angle to the baseplate which will break the magnetic hold and allow you to move the arm to a different location, but just pulling straight up it takes between 10-12 lbs of vertical pressure to pull the magnetic bases free from the base (I measured the lbs of pressure with a luggage weight measuring tool), so basically, once they are positioned, they can hold a lot of weight (just to demonstrate the holding power of the magnets, I folded the arms over to make a sort of stand, and they easily hold this 9"x11"x3" [8lb] book in the air - see pic). When my tool first arrived, everything was perfect except that one of the arms had a very weak magnet - it took almost no vertical pressure to pull it free, and it wouldn't even hold up the weight of a 3x5 index card, (but I figured this defunct magnet was just an accidental issue due to the good quality of the rest of the product). When I contacted the company to tell them about the weak magnet, they responded back to me within minutes and they immediately arranged to resolve the issue and solved that problem to my ultimate satisfaction. I would definitely recommend this tool and its company. Very pleased with this excellent product and with the helpful customer service the company gives - 5 stars to both!

This Helping Hands Soldering Holder is a fantastic multi-purpose tool that really stands out for its versatility. It’s not just for soldering circuit boards—it’s also great for jewelry welding, model making, engraving, and other delicate tasks. The 360-degree rotating alligator clips securely hold workpieces of various shapes and sizes, freeing up my hands and making precision work much easier. The design is also very well thought out. The extra-large non-slip base is incredibly stable, so even when applying force, it stays firmly in place. The flexible arms allow for easy angle and height adjustments, letting me work in the most comfortable position. Plus, the built-in magnifier is a nice touch, helping with small solder joints and reducing eye strain during long work sessions. The overall metal construction feels premium—heavy and solid, giving a real sense of durability. The alligator clips have a strong grip and don’t loosen over time, which adds to its reliability. That said, the magnification (2-5X) might not be enough for extremely fine soldering work. Also, the tool is quite large, so it takes up some storage space. But overall, it’s a well-made, practical tool that makes detailed work much easier!

The arms stay where you place them, and the alligator clips have protective vinyl caps on them to prevent scratching your work piece. The magnets on the bottom of the arms are strong enough to prevent the arms from falling over while you are setting it up, and will hold your item tightly when three or more are used. The arms are easy to reposition as needed. The alligator clips are threaded into the end of the arms and feature a locking nut so that they can be secured while rotated into any position. The surface of the base is smooth and non reflective, easy to clean but prevents glare. The bottom of the arm magnets are covered by a plastic sticker to prevent scratching the surface of the base. The rubber feet on the base are well adhered and don't cause rocking when it is placed on a flat surface. The magnetic arm for the magnifying glass is the same as the other arms with the exception of the size of it's threaded hole. It has a larger threaded hole to accommodate the larger screw on the magnifier. The lens of the magnifier is glass and looks to be free of distortion. It was quite dirty with finger prints and residue when it arrived, but those cleaned off easily. The frame around the lens is plastic and it does not have any sort of ball joint, it just sticks straight out of the end of the arm.Due to the design of the magnetic arms, and they way they bend into position with the alligator clip having to come straight out of the end of the arm, the biggest work piece you can mount on here is about 9 inches by 6.5 inches (230mm X 165mm).

This is a pretty decent soldering helping hand. The magnet arms rather than stationary make it really useful when trying to adapt to certain boards. The clamps are strong so you do not have to worry about the board falling off. The magnets are also strong so you do not have to worry about it falling over. It is not super strong where you cannot remove it when needed from the base. This magnet design has not damaged or hindered any board I have worked on so far. The magnifying glass is helpful. It is not the best but it does the job for what I need it. The neck is strong but easy to adjust as needed. The base is very nice. It is not easy to damage or get scratched up. I am able to remove any excess solder or flux if it happens to drip down. There are grips on the bottom of the base to prevent slipping. Overall I am pretty happy with this helping hand device. I would say it is definitely a better design as it is something that I can easily adjust to any board size as well as being able to reduce clutter with unneeded arms.
