I was replacing older Firex brand detectors with newer Kidde models. These converter connectors made that go a little smoother and faster without having to turn off the power to wire new pigtails in. One note: that extra connector will take up a little room in the junction box, so while you have the baseplate off to replace it, make sure you redistribute the wires in the box (if need be) to give yourself a little more room for that connector. Also, these are designed for Kidde detectors where the plug goes vertically into the back of the detector, not horizontally nestled into the back. But, I had two detectors with that alternate arrangement and I just snipped off some of the extra plastic on these convertors and they worked fine for those detectors too.

If you have old Kidde smoke detectors that use a straight 3-pin plug, this adapter will allow you to install new Kidde Firex detectors with a triangular 3-pin plug, without having to do any re-wiring. To be sure, these adapters make installing replacement smoke detectors faster and easier. However, the new Firex detectors come with a new pigtail plug, so it is a rather simple matter to unscrew the wire nuts from the old pigtail plug and then screw the nuts onto the new pigtail. Given the low price of the Firex detectors, the cost of these adapters seems a little high, and they are by no means necessary, unless you really don't want to do any wiring at all.

Made my life so easy. Easily connected my new smoke detectors to the existing wiring. It's a little bit challenging to fit all wiring behind the devices due to extension of wiring. It's expensive but it well worth it for not dealing with rewiring. Overall, I'm so happy with them.

If you've just bought a new model Kidde smoke detector, DON'T BELIEVE THE DESCRIPTION OF THIS ADAPTER!It will probably not fit your smoke detector even though it does fit the old Firex socket perfectly.The Kidde pinning looks good though, even after trying to carve off a lot of extraneous plastic, I still couldn't get a good connection

If you replace your old Firex smoke detectors, Kidde now owns & you will need these adapters. BTW, you will need to replace ALL old units, as the new Kidde units will not communicate with the Firex units. The adapters snap-in easily & work fine - I'm just mad about having to replace all the old units in my house.
