My house is 20 years old and it was built originally with all Moen hardware. I had one shower that started to leak and needed to replace the cartridge in it. I tore it apart and tried to remove the old one without this tool (channel locks didn't work) and failed. I bought this and it worked really well. Now I have this in my tool box and may never need it again. That said it's built great and works perfectly. If you need one this one will work but I hope you don't ever need one.

I really had to change the cartridge out and this made it so simple and easy for the job and it was quick Super glad I was able to find this because most Plumbing shops didn't have it available, pricing was perfect as well!!

low-cost tool to remove stem to replace O-rings. alternative (replace entire faucet set) was more costly

Great tool. Pretty simple. you could make one with the right piece of pipe and an hour or so. Or figure out some go round.I had No trouble doing the repair. I did put penetrating oil in there and the ring came out easily with no leverage needed. Very simple job, you never even have to remove the faucet handle. Remove the base with grippy gloves, remove the little extension if so equipped, remove the ring holding the cartridge with this tool, and pull the cartridge with needle nose pliers. Easy peasey.Reassemble: Use the tool to tighten the ring to finger tight. There is a tab on the bottom of the cartridge that fits in the slot in the ring. I had difficulty doing this, but keep trying to get it spot on and apply pressure to seat it. If you used penetrating oil wash the bore with soapy water or just use and the taste will go away.Once you figure out how the easiest faucet repair ever!!!

Unfortunately my plastic gasket was already stripped out even though it had never been removed to replace the cartridge before. This tool didn't work and I had to get a whole new faucet assembly from Moen. I kept it in case I need to change this type of cartridge in the future but this faucet design has flaws compared to the older style faucets and cartridges by Moen. Not this products fault.

I have an old Moen Roman Tub faucet and needed to replace the cartridge which is impossible to access and remove without this tool. After using this tool I was easily able to remove the plastic retainer ring that holds the cartridge in place. In terms of value for money, its just a piece of rolled metal with 2 tabs cut out that fit in the plastic notches. Is it worth the money? I would argue no but if you have a Moen faucet you don't really have a choice.Learning experiences and tips that may help you:- Search for your faucet's "illustrated parts diagram" and understand how your faucet is assembled. Should be available on the Moen website.- If you have a stem extension kit, it will be screwed into the top of the cartridge. If your cartridge has seized in place and cannot be removed with pliers like mine, remove the stem extension kit and get a long 3-4 inch screw, and screw it into the old seized cartridge. Use the pliers to grip the screw head and put out with force.
