I wiped out the socket with acetone to get rid of oils, them cleaned it with this reamer. The residual acetone dissolved the adhesive that holds on the felt strips and I was left with a bare piece of wood. My mistake - once I let the acetone evaporate, the second reamer did a great job, and I have glued some new felt onto the original.

Cleaning the inside of a Morse taper is something I think of in the middle of a job and don't want to stop. These Morse taper cleaners from the the BMWOOD Store on Amazon are a clever tool, but as another reviewer said, plastic would have been better, since the wood isn't very durable.Since these aren't precision, I wrapped the wood dowel part in tape to reinforce it, and chucked it in my metal mini-lathe, which has an MT2 taper in the tailstock. I used WD-40 as a cleaning fluid, and used the other cleaner tool to wipe the excess fluid out. Then a drop or two of machine oil, and I'm all set. It seemed to do a good job, and it was a little easier than using other methods.Right now they are unavailable, and I did get these at no cost to me, in exchange for my honest review on the Vine Program. I rarely discuss prices or cost in reviews, but I have to say, when these are available again, I would consider buying them if you got more of them, and the price were much lower. These are something you use once or twice and throw away when they have absorbed too much gunk. I'm sure the maker is very proud of them, but really, they are like paper towels. In fact, I usually clean my Morse tapers with paper towels. Maybe this is a product that's trying to solve a problem, that users have already solved to their satisfaction. It reminds me of the lie we tell children: Build a better mousetrap, and the world will beat a path to your door. It's just not true.

These morse taper cleaners fit very snugly and the absorbent cloth is good for both cleaning and oiling. I would prefer if these were plastic, though. The wood portion is machine-turned from a very crumbly wood, and handling these leaves behind crumb-like sawdust, which you can see in the above picture. It's not a huge deal, since I'm using these on a wood lathe anyway and I blow out the tapers with compressed air when I'm done, but it's a mild annoyance.
