Have a like new XYZ brand edge finder that couldn't find an edge within 1 mm with any degree of repeatability. It has no burrs, is properly lubed, has never been dropped, etc. I have tried it all a variety of RPM's from 50 to 1000 with no consistent success. Finally gave up and ordered a Starrett. Works like a charm. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! I have a variety of Starrett hand tools. I've never been disappointed. - and THEY'RE MADE IN THE USA!!!!!

I bought these for my father who is a machinist and these seem to be very good quality. He was about to spend more money buying these from a different retailer, but I told him "let me try amazon". They were a better price here for the same exact quality product. He is pleased with them so I would recommend them to anyone who needs them. Even came with a case.

What can I say, it's a Starrett. I have many Starrett tools and have always found them to be tops in tool design and quality. Decent price for this purchase. Very happy with it.

You want the hole in the right place? buy this. If you don't, then don't buy this. The round side is great for edges and the pointed side is great for picking up scribe lines and small existing holes.

I use this on a Proto Trak3 knee mill, which is just like a Bridgeport, with R8 collets. The other side tends to get caught in the R8 collets so then you have to take a screw driver and spring open the collet to get it out. Which costs a minute of extra time. You can pull hard on it as the internal spring will get damaged. If I did it again I'd buy two single sided one. Other then that it works fine.

There are some tools that you can get away with buying cheap. An edge finder is just not one of them if you want it to work the way it was designed to, so spend the extra $10 vs the import, your precision and repeatability will thank you!
