I am very happy with this rest, very well made. Solid weight, straight and strong. I got the 12†version with 1†post. Plan on getting some other sizes of this same brand.

This tool rest is well machined and came very well packaged, oiled to prevent rust. I like the hardened steel rod top on which the gouge slides. The post is also very well machined and slides well in the banjo. I think the connection of the post to the rest is not well designed (see photo) and could have been better or else it would be a 5 star review.

I have a 10 inch lathe so my project are relatively small. I just started making bowls and this rounded tool rest is perfect. The price wasn't bad. It arrived in good shape and on time

I recently purchased a Record Power Coronet Herald lathe to upgrade my turning capabilities and gave away my old lathe and its tool rests. In searching for tool rests on Amazon, I stumbled on the BMWood tool rest. I purchased the 4" version as I already have a 7" tool rest that came with the lathe. The 4" tool rest is well made and the castings and welding of the bar are smooth. The post fits the Coronet Herald banjo like a glove with no "slop". My only complaint is that the washer between the head and the post is overly crowned causing me to have to use a spanner to snug the post to the tool rest. Now that I have the 4", I would like to purchase the 12" tool rest, since I already have the post for the 4", but they don't sell the bare tool rest. I would prefer the bare tool rest but will likely buy the 12" since I like the quality of the 4" tool rest so much.

Bought all three sizes and glad I did seem to be well maid and with the hardened steel top rest my lathing tools slide over my work smoothly making it easer to get a better cut.

Solid quality and great value. On small lathes like the 12†midi lathes the horizontal bar can be a little to high when the rest is lowered all the way but its not a major problem. If this was available just like it is with fixed post it would be even better. I prefer to just locktite the post home and make it permanent.
