I use this to check fiber light is making it from the central office to our c-ran poles. It will shoot light five miles.

I don't install fiber. However, I am often utilizing the fiber to connect switches together.Sometimes, you need to visibly see if light can pass and if the pairs on each end line up correctly. This is the device for the job! I have used it on Multimode and Singlemode fiber and it has saved me much time and energy when troubleshooting.I even bought my coworker one and he has loved having it too. Worth the price for your Networking Toolkit if you work in the field.

Laser is super bright on this VFL.very easy to operate. Needs 2 AA batteries TO OPERATE HOWEVER BATTERIES GET DRAINED WITHIN 30 min of continual use, until its so dim that you cannot see w naked eye …buy lots of AA batteries if your doing any troubleshooting on fiber, using the VFL. Twinkle mode makes it easy to locate a fault, during a sunny day and to drain those AA BATTERIES WITHIN 30 min . Otherwise great product short battery life

Be advised. This is likely to damage your retina. !Buy a pouch immediately as it comes with extras to make connections. I used a Klien padded, zippered, camo pouch previously ordered off Amazon. Perfect fit.Not so sure about this unit's ability to identify faults. It's so bright it would blast past breaks in fiber. I think it's best use would be to ID single lines. A continuity tester of sorts. I used it to ID circuits from MDF to multiple IDFs. Worked great! Couldn't believe how bright it was.

This VFL is extremely bright.The user can plug it into a fiber and shine red light on the wall across the room from the other end. It will shoot red light right through a broken fiber or out any microbend. It lights up white or clear plastic caps. If the user is trying to locate a break a big attenuator might be helpful to lessen the intensity. It is considerably more powerful than most of the vfls that I have used.If it is on and plugged in youre gonna see the other end if youre close.
