This worked great. I watched Ford Tech Youtube videos to do a full timing set change on my 08 5.4L 3V. This included removing and inspecting roller followers. He recommended top of the line valve spring compressor (5X$) which I probably would have bought if I was doing this for a profession. I compared several of these using close up pictures. Most of the cheaper tools had casting or stamp marks on the sides of the "fork" as in picture. These were not present on the top line brand and are not on the ARES 15001. These weren't the cheapest but appeared to be close to top line quality. They went in smoothly and the screw and twist nut tightened and loosened easily and smoothly through entire range. The knurling on the knob appeared to be similar in quality making it easy to grip and turn. Got the job done.

This worked perfectly for the timing job I did on my 5.4l 3v. I was hesitant on this with the reviews some people left about it not working. At first I thought it wasn’t working right either but then I figured it out. I think the complaints about this isn’t a bug but actually a feature. I thought the ball on the top was giving me issues but noticed if everything is lined up right and the foot of the tool is placed properly, the screw part just barely catches the threads of the tool and it works just fine. So it only works if it’s placed properly on the cam/valve spring which I like. It forces you to not mess up. A little tedious but totally does what it’s designed for. Also, the tool didn’t bend or diminish in usability in anyway like others said. Quality material, quality tool.

It worked to replace a worn roller follower in my 2010 F150 with a 5.4 triton. I did have to take the tip off of the piece that compresses the valve spring so I could get the knob to thread.

Without this I would still have a buring oil problem definitely made the job super easy with two people better then taking the cams and the heads off definitely save alot of time and money.

Literally just got delivered and went to reinstall my valve spring and keepers on my crown Vic 4.6 2v and wow much easier to work with and actually does what it's suppose to unlike the OEM brand I purchase and unlike the OEM brand the spring pusher arm is attached to the pry arm with a roll pin that save a lot of headache and frustration. And makes installing the rocker arms a breeze. ⭐⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

I bought this tool reluctantly over the OTC tool. I've been a ASE Master Certified mechanic for over 30 years and have used and own many OTC tools that work perfectly for their intended use. I have since retired from turning wrenches full time (shoulder problems like all other old mechanics) and do maintenance and repairs for family and friends. I didn't want to spend the coin on a tool that I was going to use only a few times if that.....so....I opted for the lower cost tool and it performed perfectly! The key to not bending this compressor as with the OTC tool is using it properly. If you don't pay attention to how you install it to compress the valve spring....you'll bend it as you would with the OTC compressor. It worked perfectly for me doing a complete chain and gears, VCT components and all new followers. Also, be prepared to take your time doing all of the followers. Don't get in a hurry and you'll do just fine!!

i used this on a 2009 ford f250 5.4 and it worked great there was a learning curve on how to use it it can be a little tricky to find that sweet spot but when you find it the tool screws together easily if your fighting it you need to readjust save your money abut this rather then the otc one

Works well in confined areas and gives the required leverage and compress the springs!

Did not open up far enough and one of the claws were bent. Stated would work on a Ford F250 Super Duty.

The tool worked great for about 3 minutes. It was able to take the retainers off but when I went to install them back on the valve the cam holders broke almost instantly. I wasn't forcing it or anything. It would be the perfect tool if not for the cheap material.

Broke on me at first attempt. Reading the other reviews I expected something good out of this spring compressor. Made of cheap materials. I ended up doing the old screw driver trick to get my followers/rockers in, and out. Was very simple doing it that way .I’ll give it one star for the design, just needs to be made with better materials.
