I like this style winder for worsted weight or larger yarns. This model is incredibly similar to others in the market and has a much lower price point. I have the $$$ model from a certain knitting company as well as the even pricier model from the Australian spinning company (cough, cough.) This is almost exactly the same item from both. The only difference is the spring that yarn loops through before winding on the peg and the table clamp. You can see a comparison video on YouTube for reference.I will say that I always lubricate the metal with spinning wheel oil. The instruction sheet is clear and easy to follow but does not include this step. Your wrists will thank you if you can find anything (white oil, Vaseline, astroglide etc) for the two metal posts. This model is one of my favorites so far. The handle rotation is smooth and the metal posts are easy to clean and access. My one complaint is that the table clamp is too small and the placement was odd. This is common with this style winder and not particular to the model. I drilled additional holes at end to use another clamp and attach it at the corner of the table. Additional holes or clamps would be nice. Other than that I really like this winder.

When I opened the box I was hit with a strong moldy smell. The hardware looks all rusty or corroded. I was able to assemble it and it looks like it might work, but no way I would use it with my precious yarn. The belt is made of silicone, and will need to be periodically replaced, but I have no idea where to get the replacement. It looks so pretty, but I wish it wasn't spoiled like this.

It’s a lovely device. HOWEVER the screw in the tightening tip broke off because the wood cracked and a chunk of wood fell right off.. I had to do a work around involving duct tape and repositioning the screw base to the inside of the center rod. Also, the center rod to which the screw attachment is meant to be fastened is poor quality wood and the tip of the screw went right through the wood. Hot glue and duct tape helped, but it’s rather unattractive addition. The design is nice enough to leave the swift out on a shelf in my craft area, but my work around safe unattractive. I’m hoping my swift was the exception to the rule, because the design is very nice.
