I connected this to an Inkbird even though Hygger says it must be used with their controller. Works just fine for a lower price than I found for others that are made for any 3rd party external controller. I didn't want a glass surround element for fear of it shattering and always a fear I will be electrocuted when I reach my hand in the tank lol.

Plug and play fixed 500 watt heater. Comes with 3 prong plug for use with controller or on/off switch strip for continuous use. I use with a timer to hold 100 degree water temp.

I am a big fan of these heater rods. I breed fish and have 45 tanks that most all of them have this setup. I use these with the inkbird controllers and really like them. I will eventually replace the few heaters with these as those give up the ghost. They heat your tanks quickly and last. Once you try them you'll only want them. Thanks hygger!

*Updated - After my first review Hygger reached out and sent a replacement heater, amazing! In that time I had since bought another heater so it's nice knowing a have a new extra one laying around if my BRS were to ever take a crap. Thanks Hygger(Original) Didn't last very long... Last 3 days longer out of the return window

I think many people may be shocked if they buy this and then realize they've boiled their fish. This is not like the heaters you buy in the pet shop, where there is a thermostat built-in and it will hold that temperature for you. Nor is there a pre-set temperature on this. This thing will just keep pumping maximum heat out until the power is cut off.And that is by design. If you plug this into a standalone thermostat with submersible temperature probe, this thing is great. More accurate with that setup, and more reliable. I'm using this kind of setup to heat the sump that is filtering water for a betta barracks rack. All the fish in the rack are critically endangered species so I need trustworthy gear. This works very well, if you use them as intended.

Update : Sept 2024This is the third and last of these heaters i will ever use! All three have created electric currents in my marine aquariums. The first 2 were on a biocube 32 and this one is paired with a different brand and controlled by an Innovative Marine Helios which can support upto 1000 watts. Wish I cld get a refund but I'm now just outside the return period.I have several friends that use these in their freshwater aquarium without problems. Maybe the freshwater aquariums don't experience this because the water isn't as conductive as saltwater.______________________________________________________________________Loved this heater at first but having to buy a replacement every 3 to 4 months is insane! The first one came with the kit and it lasted abt 3 months before it blew. The second one did great for abt 3 months and is still working but is sending am electric current into the water that I didn't realize until I stuck my hand in the water. Not enough to hurt but def am irritant! Cldnt imagine being a fish or my coral coral living in a state of constant shock and pain!Biocube 32 reef aquarium.
